Abstract Artist/Photographer

As the creator of Imagery-imagined,  I view myself not so much as a photographer, but as an abstract artist whose chosen medium is digital photography. Using the processes described below, I create abstract images which are not of something, but complete abstractions.  I refer to the results as "abstract photography". To my knowledge, I am the only person creating images in this way.

Having been fascinated with how natural processes produce beauty using only random "fractal" movement. Over a number of years I have developed various studio techniques to create images that use these natural processes as their subject. Technically they are created by a combination of thermodynamics, hydrodynamics  and other dynamic processes with some artist intervention.

The photographic images that are created without the intent of a specific form. The images take many forms from those that remind us of astronomical features to splashes of color that might well up for the deep ocean. Because they start from the dynamic natural processes, each image is unique and can not be reproduced even knowing all the inputs and techniques.

Most images start with a clear liquid or gel then color is added. Creating the images often takes considerable time. Set up might take a couple of hours, but the images are the result of the action of temperature and gravity or other interactions as they move and mix the colors. The complete process may take several days.

The results are not stable so to show them, they are photographed. Then post processed, to improve the color and composition and impact can be extensive or minimal. Each step is influenced by the artist’s emotions and moods. Often the same image processed on a different day results in very different images. Some images express isolation, others conflict, or even death.

Ultimately, it is for the viewer to decide what to see in each image. I have found that most viewer see something different than I do, as a result I do not title the images, to avoid prejudicing the views opinion.
